Wondering if a personal trainer is for you? Wonder no more.

You’ve been in the gym for days, weeks, months, or years, and for some reason, you’ve never sought the assistance of a professional trainer. Now you’re wondering if you’ve made a mistake. Should you have enlisted the help of a pro a long time ago? Maybe.

Here are a few reasons to get a professional trainer on your side.

You Want to Get Fit (Safely)

Anybody can walk into a gym and start slinging weights around or sprinting on a treadmill. However, doing any kind of exercise without having someone to tell you if you’re doing it properly or not can put you at risk for all sorts of injuries. On top of the potential for getting hurt, using improper form also reduces your likelihood of getting the full benefit of the exercise you’re performing.

Instead of letting your poor form keep you from getting healthier, get a personal trainer. He or she will know the ins and outs of good form and will correct you when an arm, leg, or your torso isn’t in the right place. Eventually, having this professional by your side will instill good form that you can maintain even when you’re worn out at the end of a workout.

You Need Motivation

Getting to the gym isn’t always as easy as you wish it would be. After all, you’ve got a busy enough life without having to squeeze exercise in there. Hence why it’s a good idea to have a friend or family member join you for exercise. That way, when one of you isn’t up to hitting the gym, the other will be there to make sure you both workout that day.

But what if your exercise partner could be someone with specialized training in exercise? And what if this exercise partner helped you keep track of your progress, so you could use small improvements to keep yourself motivated? That’s the power of a professional personal trainer.

You’ve Been at It a While

If you’ve been hitting the gym hard and heavy for a while but have stopped seeing improvements, making a few tweaks to your routine can reap big dividends. The problem is that it’s not always easy to figure out what tweaks you should make. Enter stage left: your professional trainer.

With years of studying, training, and experience, a professional trainer should be able to watch your workout and figure out where you can make changes. A good trainer can also monitor the changes made in your routine to make sure they’re having the desired result. Over time, your trainer will offer even more suggestions to ensure your routine never causes your good health to become stagnant.

You Realize Exercise Isn’t Enough

While a personal trainer’s main focus is exercise, a true professional trainer realizes that good health depends on more than just working out. When seeking a trainer who fits your needs, look for one who also understands how what you eat affects your performance in the gym and overall good health. This way, you can get eating tips before, during, and after your exercise routine to make sure you are living a lifestyle that complements what you’re doing in the gym a few times each week.

By having a fuller view of what it means to obtain and maintain good health, you’re more likely to get and stay healthy for the long run. So you’ll not only look better than you ever have. You’ll also feel better as well!

Qualifications, Please.

When choosing a professional trainer to assist in your goals, consider his or her qualifications. Each country has different certifying agencies that require trainers to undergo rigorous training to acquire. If a trainer doesn’t have such certification, keep looking.

Hey Everyone,

Today is Day 3 of my challenge – and I will not lie and say that it’s easy. But SUCCESS has no Shortcuts

Check out the Special Deal section also on my blog

Before I go into all the details, I want to tell you about the last 3 days.
On Saturday we had our
Annual Get in Shape Cookout at Stone Mountain Park, I was
mentally preparing to start my Challenge on Sunday Morning. So what did I do,
I enjoy great food at the cookout. Dell’s BarBQ, Shelly’s Cheesecake, and so more things
I should probably keep to my self. It’s a rarity that I overeat, but not a rarity that I eat something
sweet. And Shelly’s cheesecake is something SPECIAL. THANKS SHELLY

On Sunday morning, here’s where the DRAMA start. I usually get up early and put on some coffee,
make some toast and watch TV, while everyone else is still in the bed. But, this Sunday was different, totally
different. i wake up to a picture on my Iphone from Marcus (my son) of a piece of cheesecake
with Praline Syrup on it,
labeled “Breakfast of Champions”. Of course, I had to get up and witness the eating of
something so wonderful. LOL

So , I proceed to fix a cup of coffee, No Creamer, No Sugar – Oh that’s not apart of your 30 Day Challenge.
All I can say was “SHUT THE FRONT DOOR”, now I’m moody already and hungry. So I go to fix my first
shake, it’s Capuccino flavor Protein Shake – nice and warm. After about 30 minutes – I’m starving and wanting
my normal coffee and toast, but can’t have it.

To make a long story short – All I did on Sunday was sit on the sofa with my dog Prince Titus and pouted, rethinking
this entire challenge. And what happens while I’m on the sofa minding my own business, my girlfriends says, Shannon,
what would you tell your students about sticking to goals – JUST DO IT and stop the whining. OMG

So I make it through my first day, and my second day was pretty cool because I was at the gym working most of the day.
Staying busy and away from food and people with food really helps avoid eating out of my diet. So Day 2 was a success.

Day 3 is today – and I’m sitting in front of the computer and unfortunately thinking about FOOD. But what’s really funny,
I’m not craving anything, nor am I really hungry. It’s probably old habits that make us want food and think about what we
will eat at our next meal. But I think I will survive today – if not you’ll know tomorrow

On with the reason WHY I am taking on this challenge.
It’s a few reasons, but I will stick with the important reasons first.

I just had a Birthday on August 14th, and a picture was taken of me on the beach
in Hilton Head Island. My stomach was sticking out like I was pregnant, the same
look I had when I was 320lbs. I really was embarrassed to admit it, but MY ASS IS FAT.

I may be in great shape, but don’t have the look that I want to achieve. Somewhere along the
way – I lost it or maybe I haven’t had it in soooooo long, I forgot what it looks like.

Well, I was listening to the radio on the way from Hilton Head Island and heard the commercial,
about Dramatic Weight Lose (DWL) and remember that Scott reached out to me years ago to try
his program to see if it was a good fit for my clients. So my girlfriend Melissa called and made us
both an appointment. We get there and really wanted to see what all the hype was about.

Something you should know – Both Melissa and I are Certified Nutritionist so we have a lot of knowledge
on somethings that work and some that are BS. So I listen to the sales spill and realized that this
may be a good chance for me to lose a few pounds and also know if it will work for any of our students.

Now after all the sales spill and decision making time – Scott Cameron comes in to talk with me. He remembers
contacting me and say that he has clients that complete the program with much success, but they don’t have
a place to go for Phase Three which is working out regularly. BINGO

Well we have several places

Happy Monday Everyone,
I read this article online the other day and I just had to share it with you. Enjoy!!!
Shannon
*************************************************************************************************************************

Over time, we all gather a set of constricting habits around us—ones that trap us in a zone of supposed comfort, well below what our potential would allow us to attain. Pretty soon, such habits slip below the level of our consciousness, but they still determine what we think that we can and cannot do—and what we cannot even bring ourselves to try. As long as you let these habits rule you, you’ll be stuck in a rut.

Like the tiny, soft bodied creatures that build coral reefs, habits start off small and flexible, and end up by building massive barriers of rock all around your mind. Inside the reefs, the water feels quiet and friendly. Outside you think it’s going to be rough and stormy.

There may be sharks. But if you’re to develop in any direction from where you are today, you must go outside that reef of habits that marks the boundaries of your comfort zone. There’s no other way. There’s even nothing specially wrong with those habits as such. They probably worked for you in the past. But now it’s time to step over them and go into the wider world of your unused potential. Your fears don’t know what’s going to be out there, so they invent monsters and scary beasts to keep you inside.

Nobody’s born with an instruction manual for life. Despite all the helpful advice from parents, teachers and elders, each of us must make our own way in the world, doing the best we can and quite often getting things wrong. Messing up a few times isn’t that big a deal. But if you get scared and try to avoid all mistakes by sticking with just a few “tried and true” behaviors, you’ll miss out on most opportunities as well. Lots of people who suffer from boredom at work are doing it to themselves. They’re bored and frustrated because that’s what their choices have caused them to be. They’re stuck in ruts they’ve dug for themselves while trying to avoid making mistakes and taking risks. People who never make mistakes never make anything else either.

It’s time to pin down the habits that have become unconscious and are running your life for you, and get rid of them.
Here’s how to do it:

You need to start by putting yourself first. You’re unique. We’re all unique, so saying this doesn’t suggest that you’re better than others or deserve more than they do. You need to put yourself first because no one else has as much interest in your life as you do; and because if you don’t, no one else will. Putting others second means giving them their due respect, not ignoring them totally. Keeping up a self-image can be a burden. Hanging on to an inflated, unrealistic one is a curse. Give yourself a break.

Understand the truth about your habits. They always represent past successes. You have formed habitual, automatic behaviors because you once dealt with something successfully, tried the same response next time, and found it worked again. That’s how habits grow and why they feel so useful. To get away from what’s causing your unhappiness and workplace blues, you must give up on many of your most fondly held (and formerly successful) habits. and try new ways of thinking and acting. There truly isn’t any alternative. Those habits are going to block you from finding new and creative ideas. No new ideas, no learning. No learning, no access to successful change.

Do something—almost anything—differently and see what happens. Even the most successful habits eventually lose their usefulness as events change the world and fresh responses are called for. Yet we cling on to them long after their benefit has gone. Past strategies are bound to fail sometime. Letting them become automatic habits that take the controls is a sure road to self-inflicted harm.

Take some time out and have a detailed look at yourself—with no holds barred. Discovering your unconscious habits can be tough. For a start, they’re unconscious, right? Then they fight back. Ask anyone who has ever given up smoking if habits are tough to break. You’ve got used to them—and they’re at least as addictive as nicotine or crack cocaine.

Be who you are. It’s easy to assume that you always have to fit in to get on in the world; that you must conform to be liked and respected by others or face exclusion. Because most people want to please, they try to become what they believe others expect, even if it means forcing themselves to be the kind of person they aren’t, deep down.

Slow down and let go. Most of us want to think of ourselves as good, kind, intelligent and caring people. Sometimes that’s true. Sometimes it isn’t. Reality is complex. We can’t function at all without constant input and support from other people. Everything we have, everything we’ve learned, came to us through someone else’s hands. At our best, we pass on this borrowed existence to others, enhanced by our contribution. At our worst, we waste and squander it. So recognize that you’re a rich mixture of thoughts and feelings that come and go, some useful, some not. There’s no need to keep up a façade; no need to pretend; no need to fear of what you know to be true.

When you face your own truth, you’ll find it’s an enormous relief. If you’re maybe not as wonderful as you’d like to be, you aren’t nearly as bad as you fear either. The truth really does set you free; free to work on being better and to forgive yourself for being human; free to express your gratitude to others and recognize what you owe them; free to acknowledge your feelings without letting them dominate your life. Above all, you’ll be free to understand the truth of living: that much of what happens to you is no more than chance. It can’t be avoided and is not your fault. There’s no point in beating yourself up about it.

What is holding you in situations and actions that no longer work for you often isn’t inertia or procrastination. It’s the power of habitual ways of seeing the world and thinking about events. Until you can let go of those old, worn-out habits, they’ll continue to hold you prisoner. To stay in your comfort zone through mere habit, or—worse still—to stay there because of irrational fears of what may lie outside, will condemn you to a life of frustration and regret.

If you can accept the truth about the world and yourself, change whatever is holding you back, and get on with a fresh view on life, you’ll find that single action lets you open the door of your self-imposed prison and walk free. There’s a marvelous world out there. You’ll see, if you try it.

***********************************************************************************************************************************************

Ok, it’s Shannon here again, I hope you enjoyed this AMAZING article as much as I did. Isn’t time for you to get out of your comfort zone? Let me know if I can assist you in anyway.

Hey Get in Shape Family,

Yesterday was our Annual Boot Camp Cookout and it was a BIG SUCCESS.
I want to thank everyone that work so hard on putting this together for their
hard work. I also want to send a BIG thank you to everyone that participated.
We had a lot of FUN.

Now I promised I would say this – My team in Kickball LOST (boooo hoooo)
- we were beat 21 to 17, but we had soooo much fun. I want a rematch, lmao.

Now let’s get to the point.

On last week, I visited Dramatic Weight Loss center in Dunwoody. I had spoken to Scott Cameron
a while back when we were on V-103 radio station and we were building a relationship, however it
never materialized. But now we hope to be working together in the future, provided I succeed in my challenge.

Here’s my challenge – I personally want to lose 30lbs. I struggle with eating on occasions and can never seem
to quite achieve that consistent weight loss that I’m looking for. I contacted Dramatic Weight Lose and went in
for a consultation on last Wednesday. I am a Certified Nutrtionist and understand a lot about FOOD and Dieting,
but I still have challenges I wanted to achieve and be able to share with YOU, on other ways to lose and maintain
weight loss.

So, I will reveal everything in the next 30 days.
You may want to pay attention if you want to achieve some Dramatic Results and maintain them.

Here’s where I am today.

Weight – 245lbs
Goal Weight – 215lbs
Start Date – August 21st
End Date – Sept 21st
For the purpose of this Dramatic Weight Loss program, I’m going to mostly track my weight, Body Fat %
Activity Level, Mood (LOL) and other things that you may observe also.

Now I was told that it’s very possible for me to lose 30lbs in 30 days. Now, I know when I lose the weight
I will have no problem maintaining it, because I work out daily in Boot Camp, Personal Training
and Fit For Life Program.

I will be weighed in Every Saturday at Dramatic Weight Loss with Scott Cameron and Dr Mansfield.
Look forward to reading the results next week for my first week on this program.

Additionally, I cannot workout my first week or do anything that will cause me to burn additional calories.
This is very difficult, because I live a very active lifestyle. We will see how this goes, I’m looking forward to it.

I will let you know how the first few days go, Stay Tuned and thank you reading my Blog.
Shannon

A bigger chest reaps serious dividends, inside and outside of the gym. Ever wondered how exactly to increase your chest’s size and strength? Well, you don’t have to wonder any more! Because in the next few paragraphs, you’re about to get the lowdown on some of the best exercises to boost the size and strength of your chest.
Ready to beef up your pecs? Here we go!

Dumb It Down

Using barbells for bench presses is one of the most discussed and praised ways to improve your chest. Helpful as barbell-based bench presses may be, you can grow your chest even more if you add a little variety to your benching ways. So instead of using the barbell with each rep, do a set with the barbell and then switch to a set with dumbbells in each hand. This forces more of your pectoral muscles to get in on the action, giving them ample opportunity to grow.

Raise the Standard

Need something extra to add into your bench-pressing routine? It may be time to move to an inclined bench. By performing the same bench press routine on an incline, you work your chest muscles in new ways – no matter if you’re pushing up a barbell or dumbbells. As always, practice good technique to reduce the likelihood of injury when trying out new exercises.

Open Flies

Lying on your back on a weight bench with your feet on the ground, hold a dumbbell in both your hands, with your arms extended directly overhead and the weights touching. Lower your hands slowly to either side of your body, keeping both arms bent slightly throughout the motion. Open your hands as you lower the weights, careful to maintain balance of the weights in each hand. Once your hands are approximately parallel to the ground, hold for a moment and then return to the starting position, gradually regaining your grip on the weights.

Inclined Flies

Do everything you did for the open flies, but do it on an inclined bench. This time, your hands will not become parallel to the ground, as your body will be angled away from the floor. Instead, stop the motion when your arms are approximately level with your body. And though it may feel more natural to hold the weights over your face when at the top of your motion, keep them over your chest to ensure your workout is developing your pectoral muscles and not your shoulders.

Cable Crossovers

Standing tall in the middle of a cable-crossover station, reach out and grab a high cable handle in your left and right hand. Pull the cables until your arms are straight out to your sides, your arms and body forming a “T.” from this position, pull the handles slightly down and toward the middle of your body, keeping your arms bent slightly and your back straight. When your hands come together at your waist, hold for a moment and flex your chest. Slowly return to the starting position and repeat.

Seated Twisting Cable Flies

Have a seat in the middle of a cable-crossover station, grab a low cable with an underhand grip in each hand, and position yourself so far forward on the bench that your hands are a little behind your body and form a 45-degree angle with your body. Slowly move your arms forward and up until they meet together directly in front of your chest, arms still extended and elbows still slightly bent.

While moving toward this position, rotate your hands so they wind up facing down at the end position. Once in this position, hold for a moment, return to the starting position, and repeat.

Pec Perks

The reasons to beef up your chest are numerous. If you think a bigger chest is only desirable for those wanting to show off, think again. A bigger, stronger chest also offers the following benefits:

you’ll be better able to burn more calories during your exercise routine

you’ll have more overall strength

your athletic prowess will improve

your bottom half will look thinner and fitter

Now that you know why a bigger, stronger chest is worth having, what are you waiting for? The gym awaits!

How to Avoid Pulling a Hammy

Steps you can take today to protect your hamstrings tomorrow.

Located on the back of your thighs, your hamstrings are a group of muscles that are key to your ability to take off running from a standstill. They also make it possible for you to perform the less strenuous task of walking.

If you’re not careful, you can pull a hamstring muscle, which can cause significant pain and reduced quality of life. From sudden pain in the back of your thigh to bruising or muscle weakness in the hamstring to an inability to bear weight on the affected leg, an injured hamstring should not be taken lightly.

So what can you do to offer maximum protection to your hamstrings?

Strengthen Your Hammies

Want to keep your hamstrings from injury? The first step is to make them stronger. There are a lot of great exercises that can help you do this, and one of the simplest is to lie on your back on the ground. While bending your right leg and holding it with both hands behind the knee, allow your left leg to extend out completely on the floor. Slowly straighten your right leg until it is pointed directly overhead. Hold the position for a moment and return to the starting position. Repeat 15 times and then switch legs for another set.

Bigger Risk. Everyone runs the risk of a pulled hamstring now and then. But some folks are more likely than others to suffer a hamstring injury. If you’re not very flexible, play sports, or have had a hamstring injury in the past, you’re more likely than others to suffer a future hamstring injury.

Stretch Them Out

In addition to having strong hamstrings, you should make sure they’re ready for exercise when you’re about to hit the court or field. Hamstring stretches are some of the most common stretches people do, so you probably already have a few of them up your sleeve. Good choices include touching your toes while standing up (bend at the knees if needed) or sitting down on the ground with one leg extended and bending over your legs to touch your toes. Another good hamstring stretch is placing one foot on a step and flexing your foot upward, while leaning your body forward.

Pay Attention

Not a world-class athlete? Then you shouldn’t push your body like one. To avoid hamstring injuries that often occur, know your body’s limits and don’t push it to the point of pain. Feel yourself getting tired and a little bit sloppy? Call it a day and get some rest. Otherwise, your likelihood of hamstring injury increases substantially. You should also know yourself well enough to be cautious when trying out new activities. As hamstring injuries frequently occur while skiing, kicking, dancing, running, jumping, and lifting weights, be particularly careful when trying these activities for the first time – or for the first time in a while.

Take Action

Feel a little pain in your hamstrings? Unless you want a minor muscle strain to turn into a torn muscle, you’ll want to get off your feet and onto the at-home treatment of choice: RICE. With RICE, you start off by resting (R) the injured body part. Since it’s difficult to walk without using both legs, you may need to spend a little time off your feet. The next step is to use ice (I) to reduce swelling that may occur when you injure your hamstring. Following 20 or 30 minutes of ice, compress (C) the injured hamstring. If this is not effective in alleviating pain, skip the compression and go ahead and elevate (E) the injured leg. This keeps your injured hamstring from getting too much blood flow and increasing inflammation. It also helps you rest, which is the first step of RICE.
